Special arrangements have been made so that recipients of the following scholarships may use awards to cover the tuition portion of NU Start cost: Regents, JD Edwards, George Beadle, Ruth Leverton, Aaron Douglas, and National Merit. The credit hours earned in NU Start will count towards the total number of hours subject to the stipulations of each scholarship.
A note about payment for NU Start: The program fee is due upon registration. In an effort to help NU Starters become accustomed to using their University account all other fees are assessed to the student's bill in two parts. Tuition is due in June and room & board is due in July. Any applicable scholarships are automatically applied to the student's bill.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I take a class other than ENGL 180? All NU Starters take ENGL 180; substitutions are not possible.
- I got credit for English Composition while I was in high school. That's the same thing as ENGL 180, right? Nope. ENGL 180 is a Literature course and counts differently than English composition.
- Can I go home on the weekends? You have free time scheduled during the program, and that time is your own, but you are expected to participate fully in all NU Start activities, many of which are on the weekends.
- Can I live off campus during NU Start? NU Start is a residential program; you'll want to be in the residence halls to hang out with your new friends!
- Can I pick my roommate? We do not accept roommate requests for NU Start.
- How hard is this course? Every professor is different, but they try to be balanced for NU Start. However, expect more work than you saw in high school, and since the program is only 3 weeks, you'll need to be sure to manage your time well. You will have study hours to make sure you can get everything done.
